Vietnam War & Locomotives Series nº 3 - by Carlos Briz

(Class GP-20 locomotive - U.S. Army Transportation Corps)

Oh yes!
Will you just check out this outstanding set of dioramas related to the Vietnam War!
The F-5 "Freedom Fighter" is a case of sucess in avation history, that managed to fly" right into the XXI century!

(Class GP-20 locomotive - U.S. Army Transportation Corps)

The americans sure have a way with naming things.
"Thunderchief" is a name that has a nice ring to it and fits this fighter-bomber really well.

(Class SD-45 locomotive - U.S. Army Transportation Corps)

The F-4 "Phantom" was able to bring a big payload to any battlefield. The lack of an internal cannon was it's biggest initial defect.

(RM Class locomotive - North-Vietnamese Railways)

Even without the high-tech components of it's adversaries (long range radar and missiles), the Mig 21 proved to be a tough opponent.
I just love that silver outlook...

WWII Locomotives & War Series nº 27 - by Carlos Briz (Pithead Collection)

(Class Pt31 locomotive - Polish State Railways)

Unfortunately for Poland, it's abundant "horse power" was not enough to stop the German invasion in 1939.

The 7TP tank was one step ahead of the Pz I and Pz II in terms of firepower and armor, but they were just too scarce to make a difference and were defenseless against the Luftwaffe.

The PZL P.11 fighter was not even a match, in terms of speed, to face most German bombers.
What more could they have done against the Bf 109's and Bf 110's ?

WWII Locomotives & War Series nº 26 - by Carlos Briz (Pithead Collection)

(Class BR52 locomotive - German State Railways)

The Romanian army made a sizeable contribution for the overall war effort of the axis forces, during WWII and here you can check out some of its lesser known equipment, such as the R2 tank and the IAR 80 fighter.

The R2 tank was of Czech origin (Skoda LT vz. 53), but it's 37 mm main gun did not even bother the T 34's  they had the misfortune to meet in battle.
The Stalingrad campaign resulted in the obliteration of the Romanian army units using this tank, by the hand of Soviet armour.

The IAR 80 is a very good looking fighter airplane and saw extensive service during Operation Barbarossa.
It acheived it's best performance at low altitude. However, later in the war (1944) all Romanian fighter squadrons reverted to the Bf 109G's, since this airplane had lost it's edge when confronted with modern allied fighter airplanes.

WWII Locomotives & War Series nº 25 - by Carlos Briz (Pithead Collection)

(Class Mikado locomotive - USSR State Railways)

Following the recent trend, here you have another diorama related to WWII

Here you have a fine lend-lease P-40 in soviet service. This model acheived good results against the Bf 109, when well handled, although it's armament was considered rather ineffective for aerial combat.

There is a rather insignificant prize involved if you manage to guess the meaning of the words (in russian) you can see on that locomotive.

The "Best General" poll (11)

(Charlesmagne)

Why don't we put them all together and see what happens?

That was just what I thought!
Here you have a brand new poll with an extensive list with the Best Generals of all time, where you can stand up for you favourite General.
Yes, I know some of you are already complaining this list is subjective and that there are a lot of names missing.
I must say that that is not correct. This is a truly objective and comprehensive list on this matter (the only way I will be convinced otherwise is if the "Other" guy wins...).

If we have under 500 votes over here (or if the "Other" guy wins) I will consider this poll a failure, and in this case JMM will have to paint one of my DBA armies.

WWII Locomotives & War Series nº 24 - by Carlos Briz (with Peter's Planes)

(Class SU 1-3-1 locomotive - USSR State Railways)

And after a long delay here we are back to WWII, with another coupple of Carlos dioramas, this time displaying some outstanding seaplanes from the Peter's Planes range.

The Beriev Kor-1 was out of his league for his original role as a reconaissance seaplane built for the Soviet Navy.

This seaplane saw it's most relevant active service during the siege of Sevastopol (1941 - July 1942)

(Class FS 650 locomotive - Italian State Railways)

JMM is a big fan of italian wargames models (1/144) and he is already training his forces to the Ambush Blitz tournament scheduled for this year, in Lisbon.
Too bad his forces are destined to take a thorough beating...

JMM: do not take this the wrong way.
It might still be possible for you to make a few points in the tournament
(I am just saying this because he is lending me a lot of stuff for my DAK army...)

You can check the range of Peter's Planes here: http://petersplanes.com/main%20index.htm

Most guys just do not care what happens after the last shot has been fired. But that's not Carlos way!

In this outstanding diorama you can see a glimpse of what it took to put things back together, after the war.

The Brigada Tripeira continues to expand across the country.
Now it has a "branch" in Faro thanks to a new member of the group, Mário Laranja.
A rookie in the wanderings of the wargames, but that quickly fell in love with the world of miniatures used in our hobby.
Here is their presentation as well as some photos of his original work, houses in 1/144.

"Hi, I'm Mário Laranja, 38 years old and living in Faro, with a passion for model airplanes, model ships, by manufacturing and movies of World War II.
For this reason I started a few months ago, the adventure by wargames, driven not only by gameplay but also (and delighted) by the execution of scenic material scale of 1 / 144.
I'm a 3D CAD designer, I am pleased to conjugate my hobby to profession, the project design and run my own models.

Cheers,
Mário"

Força Mário, continua com entusiasmo o teu ingresso nos jogos de guerra.

Will we witnessed the birth of a new brand of accessories for our gaming tables?
Keep working Mário, continue with enthusiasm in joining on wargames.
